When the Power 9 Pet Vacuum Cleaner (RRP: £159.99) from Vax arrived I was amazed how heavy it was! It is an absolute beast of a vacuum cleaner!
Upon opening the box I was faced with assembling the cleaner together myself, a task that usually goes wrong when I find spare parts. Though I found it very easy to clip, turn and fasten everything together. With 4 screws to use even I could not go wrong!
Once assembled I was very excited about testing and could not wait to give it a try! I am used to visible Power buttons however was totally confused about how to switch the vacuum on. After a very quick consultation with the instructions I realised on the Power button was on the left hand side near the tilt lever, making it easy to switch on and off with your foot.
The beast whirred to life and began the arduous task of picking up dirt brought in by my dog and daughter. I am forever vacuuming due to having a dog that sheds hair constantly. Luckily my daughter has never been affected by the dog hair but I am always careful to purchase vacuums with filters – this particular cleaner has an anti-bacterial PETA filter helping to reduce bacteria, allergens and pet related odours.
This is a powerful vacuum with 3 options – thick carpet, low carpet and hard floors – the height adjuster is located on the front base of the Power 9 Pet and is easy to turn. A bagless cylinder is easier to handle, with less mess created and it makes this particular Vax really cost effective. Be aware, the Power 9 Pet is noisy, really noisy, hence why I have nick-named it “The Beast”. I don’t find this a problem however some may not appreciate the louder than normal whirring. The extremely long 10m cable is fantastic and enables me to cover two rooms with ease as opposed to pulling the cable out to try and find another socket for each room.
The accessories make it very easy to ensure corners, stairs and sofas can be vacuumed properly.
Overall Plus Points: Great to look at, quite unique and modern in design. Powerful, it really does the job is fantastic for use with pets. Great accessories that ensure every crevice is cleaned. Long extension cable which makes cleaning continuous instead of having to stop and start. Very heavy duty, it really doesn’t take any prisoners.
The Downsides: Heavier than you would expect, it really isn’t for the faint hearted and using this on the stairs proves to be a workout in itself. Noisy, to the point it startles you the first time you use it. I do have to admit I didn’t find it worked on my laminate floor and tiled kitchen floor as well as my old vacuum. It seemed to take longer to pick up bits that shouldn’t have posed a problem.
The Power 9 Pet works wonders on carpets and is an absolute godsend for pet owners. The noise can easily be overlooked for a well built vacuum from a reputable company, that does the job properly.
