It is about time that I finally supported a charity on my blog in order to raise awareness of all the amazing work conducted around the world, mainly by very honourable volunteers.
The British Red Cross is a well known organisation which is volunteer led that prepare and cares for people whether in this country or abroad when dealing with emergencies. Over the past few years there have been several disasters around the world which have required countries to get together and help communities cope with the aftermath and rebuild their lives.
The Red Cross is always at the forefront of humanitarian organisations which go into help the communities. It is with the support of selfless people either by donations or giving up their time to help that over one million people in the UK alone were last year helped by the wonderful people of the British Red Cross.
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement started in 1863 and since then has grown from strength to strength. Providing food parcels, medical supplies and many more aid during the First and Second World Wars, I feel quite humbled that the Red Cross volunteers would no doubt have helped my ancestors during the wars.
There are many ways you can help the British Red Cross besides simply donating money. Times are very hard currently and if you feel that you cannot spare any money what about sparing your time?
The British Red Cross website features a section on how you can help and showcases volunteer positions available around the country. No matter what your expertise, skills or time constraints, there will be a role that will suit you.
