When I invited my friend to join me on an evening sampling the new Frankie and Bennys cocktail list (designed by Andy Pearson, award winning mixologist and formerly of Something for the Weekend) and food, she almost cried! Two mum’s who don’t have much free time, being allowed out to drink and chat? It was an invitation not to be refused!
After Liv and I previously reviewed the new Food Menu at Frankie & Benny’s in Pilsworth it made sense to pop along to the other restaurant in our town. As soon as we sat down in our booth, things became serious as the Cocktail Menu to precedence over food. It made sense to start the evening with a Cosmopolitan. Not generally my favourite cocktail, as I am not a vodka fan but I always find a Cosmopolitan looks so elegant in it’s glass that I am instantly drawn to it. A Cosmopolitan is made using vodka, triple sec and cranberry juice, with a small slice of curled orange peel for decoration. As expected the cocktail was zingy and refreshing, the perfect way to start of our night’s drinking session!
Next I ordered my all time favourite cocktail and one which I could quite happily drink all day long! A Mojito! I was a little disappointed not to find a Strawberry Mojito available but the fresh, extremely more-ish and very pretty Mojito I ordered was divine. So divine in fact, I actually ordered another!!
It goes without saying that I also tried the ice cold Strawberry Daiquiri, a firm favourite of mine since I started drinking many years ago. A Daiquiri is made with Bacardi rum, fresh lime juice and sugar blended until ice-cold and flavourings. The fresh strawberry on the side was a nice finishing touch. The cocktail was so delicious and cold it actually made me cough. I loved it!
After a nice chat with the cocktail waiter about all the different cocktails it was decided I try the Espresso Martini – a rich combination of fresh espresso, Eristoff vodka and Kahlua coffee liqueur. I was so adamant that I would not like the cocktail and I didn’t want it to put me off coffee forever that one was made for me. I have to say for the little I did manage to try (an incident occurred due to the need for an Instagram picture for the blog! Whoops!) I quite enjoyed it. I thought the cold coffee taste may have put me off but I did not find it overbearing in the slightest. I can’t say it would be top of my list but for a special treat it is a stunning drink. The drink arrived in a martini glass, the cocktail garnished with 3 coffee beans on top.
So, I think I have proved that I love cocktails and it appears I am a rum lady, but what does your favourite cocktails say about you?
Mojito – Those who can’t resist a fresh cocktail will love this cool Cuban combination. Made with fresh lime, mint and sugar, plus a generous splash of Bacardi rum, a mojito drinker is sure to be cool, calm and collected.
Appletini – This fun and flirty drink is a modern take on a martini, perfect for those who don’t take their cocktails too seriously. Packed with Eristoff vodka, pressed apple juice and gingerbread syrup, this delightful drink is sure to get the party started.
Cosmopolitan – A sexy and sassy cosmopolitan is a great choice for those who like to keep it classic and on-trend. This zesty drink comprises vodka, triple sec and cranberry juice creating a cool and crisp taste.
Classic Sour – For those who like to be adventurous, this quirky cocktail is available with Jack Daniels, Amaretto or Midori. Finished with fresh lemon juice and egg whites for added smoothness, it is then topped off with sugar. The ideal choice for someone who likes to stand out from the crowd.
Espresso Martini – This rich and sumptuous drink is ideal for those looking for a classic cocktail with a twist. Fresh espresso teamed with vodka and a coffee liqueur offers an instant caffeine hit – a brilliant blend for those living in the fast lane and in need of a pick-me-up.
Gentle Breeze – A delicious non-alcoholic cocktail for those who like to behave rather than rave! This drink combines a delicious blend of apple, cranberry and citrus juices and is served over ice, offering the designated driver something delightful to sip on.
Bramble – For those with a mysterious edge, this deliciously dark cocktail is a tasty mix of Bombay Sapphire gin and black raspberry liqueur. An added kick of fresh lemon means this drink really packs a punch.
The Frankie & Benny’s New Cocktail Menu features a vast array of cocktails from premium, to the classics, to iced cocktails. Pitchers are available. As are Non-alcoholic cocktails. Prices start from £4.95 for alcoholic cocktails and £2.95 for non-alcoholic cocktails.
A huge thanks to Hugh, Rich and Dave at Frankie & Benny’s who were happy to take the time to speak with us and made sure we had a fantastic, much needed night out!
I was kindly given a voucher for 4 cocktails to try and a 2 course meal for myself and my friend, for the purpose of this review.
