Whilst in London, Liv and I had the opportunity to be real ladies that lunch and enjoyed a wonderful Afternoon Tea at The Chesterfield Hotel in Mayfair.
We had had a jam packed morning at the Playstation Playfest 2013 where we got to sample the latest delights from Rayman (I am officially old considering I can no longer play the game!) and Smurfs 2 to name a few – we also had great fun at the Tearaway section, cutting and sticking, making our own little dudes.
As you would expect from this type of event, there were some hardcore gamers (not quite The Big Bang Theory!) but as the event was aimed at families, you guessed it, there were children everywhere! When Liv stayed still for more than 5 minutes, I actually managed to have decent, adult conversations about the games being displayed.
It took me 20 attempts to make it over a particular part of the new Rayman game… I gave up my seat for an 8 year old who stormed right past the point on his first go. At that point I knew I was officially old and it was time to make tracks and head over to The Chesterfield.
Hailing a cab was not as much fun as it is made to look and finally we managed to catch a driver’s attention… I didn’t even have to hitch up a leg… impressive!
Off we trundled, on the hottest day of the year so far to The Chesterfield in Mayfair… what an amazing hotel, with an amazing atmospher here. So amazing I was scared. There were lots of Americans and lots of opinions being bandied around the bar area… £8.20 for a double Southern Comfort, Lime and Lemonade and £5 for a fresh OJ. I kid thee not! Anyway… finally the lovely lady I have worked with for the past 3 years turned up with son and we were finally ushered into the very light, airy conservatory, perfect for Afternoon Tea.
A surprise had been arranged and before I knew what was happening, a shot glass with coloured lemonade and popping candy was placed in front of us… along with a Charlie and The Chocolate Factory themed afternoon tea! This included a special plate for Liv with jam sandwiches AND peanut butter sandwiches. This was the first time I had ever tried peanut butter… and I liked it! 🙂
I cannot tell you how stunning the cakes were and how guilty I felt having to break into them and scoff them. The sandwiches were divine and the complimentary refill was a fantastic idea… smoked salmon sandwiches all the way! Well Liv and I did have to stock up for another long journey over to Bookham… on another train! I think though that after indulging in so many Afternoon Tea breaks in the last couple of months, I could become quite addicted to the leisurely lunch routine 😛
