Blogging has opened my world up to so many things and both Liv and I are extremely fortunate to experience what we do. Liv and I have such active social lives now and it’s thanks mainly to our fantastic local blogger friends. We do regularly meet up and have a monthly food feast at each other’s houses.
The last foodie meetup was over at Karen’s – bless her, she fed our bellies with the most delicious and filling meat and tatty (potato) pie! When Coppenrath & Wiese recently got in touch with me about reviewing some of their stunning frozen cakes how could I say no?! Myself and friends all love cake and the food night was a great excuse to have several bloggers give their opinions of the cakes at once.
Coppenrath & Wiese kindly arranged for 3 cakes to be delivered, the Stracciatella Cherry Torte (a Finest Cream Gateaux, one of the new cakes in the range), an Apple and Walnut cake (delicious when cooked) and a Lemon Cheesecake (which was simply divine!).
All the cakes are frozen, which makes storing the cakes very easy. Though knowing they are in the freezer is extremely hard, especially as they are all so delicious!
The Stracciatella was definitely my favourite and that of most of the other bloggers – and in fact all the children! With its crispy chocolate chips, fresh vanilla cream and a cherry mousse topping. This is the perfect Italian dessert to complement a meat and tatty pie and it really did look too beautiful to eat! With a 4-5 hour defrost time, it was a very long wait, though it was most definitely worth it! I do not believe there was any cake left! It was huge and was enjoyed by at least 10 adults and just as many children!
The Apple and Walnut cake was very soft and moist when cooked and definitely soaked up some of the alcohol! It was great just to pick chunks of this cake up and eat on the go and was just as delicious when cooled down – it cooked in around 20 minutes, which is quite quick for a cake lover!
The Lemon Cheesecake defrosted in around 2-3 hours and had a lovely biscuit base, especially considering the cake had been frozen. The cheesecake had a delicate lemon taste and was really quite refreshing.
I had never really noticed the cakes before but have now started spotting them when I conduct my weekly grocery shop. The cakes certainly do not help with my weight loss, but hey, we are all allowed a little treat every now and then! I am keeping my eyes peeled for one of the delicious looking Mousse au Chocolat Torte – another new cake in the range – all chocolate, even the images have me drooling.
Whether you are having a party or simply want to eat comfort food whilst watching the X Factor, you really cannot go wrong with a Coppenrath & Wiese frozen dessert. If you want to keep up to date with all the latest offerings go and check out the C&W Facebook page!
You can find the cake ranges in your local grocery retailers – I have found some in my local Tesco.
