Afternoon Tea At Opus One Bar And Restaurant, Manchester

by S1m

I have enjoyed several Afternoon Tea sessions this year and yet still I forget how filling they are!

Recently Heather and I trotted off to Opus One Bar and Restaurant at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in Manchester for a birthday treat and to sample the festive Afternoon Tea on offer… we made the mistake of having a coffee and muffin before we went to scoff ourselves silly. Big Mistake!

Opus One

Walking into the hotel was lovely, there was such a Christmas feel to the place and certainly got us in the festive spirit. Opus One itself is very opulent with deep red decor, adding to the very welcoming vibe you feel when you walk in.

We were seated in the window, which was awesome for people watching… there was so much to see and everything that happened proved to be a talking point.

The Festive Afternoon Tea was absolutely delightful and consisted of Christmas related sandwiches such as roast turkey, cranberry and stuffing, freshly baked cranberry and orange scones with Devonshire clotted cream and jam. Winter berry jelly (which was a great palette cleanser) and mini chocolate fudge cake. We also plumped for the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea which was by far my favourite. This included mini fish, chips and mushy peas, a Yorkshire pudding with roast beef slices and gravy and a warm pork pie.

The sandwiches were really chunky and filling and yet again I made the mistake of eating those and then moving onto the cakes… which after a while I could not look at as I was so full!

As it was Heather’s birthday, a lovely plate with chocolate brownies was also brought out for her, which was a very thoughtful gesture.

I do believe I have never drunk as much tea in such a short space of time! I would thoroughly recommend the English Breakfast, it complemented the Afternoon Tea perfectly and it was lovely to spend time out with my friend and partner in crime on a ‘ladies that lunch’ session.

The staff were uber friendly and attentive, the recommendations proved to be spot on and for the time we were there, they made us feel special!

The Festive Afternoon Tea menu (including the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea) is available for £18.95 per person until the 24th December.

This looks really lovely, definitely the way to celebrate a birthday.
