We look around nervously.
We are not the only ones, everyone seems to be shuffling their feet and staring at the ground.
The Headmistress rings the bell.
The children line up in neat lines, in their perfectly pressed and brand new school uniforms and shoes. This will be the last time they all look so neat for a while.
It’s the first day of school.
The first day of my baby girl’s life. Where has the time gone?
I wave, she waves as she is walking in.
That is that, until the school pick up another 6 hours later.
I come home and proceed to cry. I am not crying due to the loss of my beautiful, stunning and astute little girl to school. I cry because the time has flown by so quickly!
Seeing my baby girl in her uniform on her first day did pull at the heart strings, but she had to wear a uniform at her pre-school the year before, so I had already fully prepared myself, but it still did not matter to me, she looked far too grown up.
Now a year later, ‘Liv-Liv’ as she is affectionately known has started in her actual 1st year of school. No more Reception and no more excuses anymore, this year isn’t as fun apparently… there is more work and less actual playtime. I explain that this is due to the fact now she is older there is more to learn. Every day there is something new, her mind is like a sponge, she picks everything up and more importantly she remembers everything. This can be both a good thing… and a bad thing.
I now know what my own mum went through on my very first day of school. Although I am unable to remember that far back, some many moons now, I am sure she recalls that day vividly, even down to what I had for breakfast that morning. In fact, my mum still sees me as her baby girl, even now that I am 31!
The time flies by far too quickly for my liking! Looking back on baby photos conjures up memories of every noise Liv made and every routine she had… I recall it like it was yesterday. Every day provides a favourite memory of Liv, something she says, a particular way she does something, even just a cheeky grin. Every moment is certainly precious.
Sharing those special moments with your child is an absolute must on a daily basis – even Fairy agree that time passes by far too quickly, as they are encouraging parents to share those oh-so-soft cuddles with their children. So embrace the Power of Soft and check out this super lovely video that Fairy have developed about how important the special milestones are!
