I have finally done it!

I have gone and smashed through that 1st stone loss barrier baby! Woo hoo!

This last week, I have been at the gym running (and even upped my speed!) and doing weights, walking the dog, going on the bike, recording steps with my FitBit, watching what I eat… it’s all being going in the right direction… but my weight loss is still not enough.

Anyone who knows me, knows how impatient and stubborn I am. I decided over the weekend that I was going to start the Almased shake diet on Monday to kick start me/ give me a quick fix/ do something to prove my weight loss journey wasn’t a waste of time… I had one shake and had a pastrami ciabatta later that night as I was starving, clearly it was harder than I imagined.

Clearly this wasn’t going to be as easy as the time when I lost over 5 stone in 16 weeks on Lipotrim. I started back on the shake diet yesterday with renewed vigour… I had to do it. End of.

I had been reading up on ways to make the Soya, Honey and Yoghurt based shakes (powder into water/skimmed milk) taste bearable… I have been including unsweetened cocoa powder, cinnamon and vanilla extract and still I have been gagging… they really are not great at all, however with perseverance and with the addition of ice cubes and altering the cocoa and cinnamon, they are slowly getting better. I used to have shakes with a cigarette, it was my habit so possibly I am missing that routine I had too. **Update, I am now mixing the shakes without cocoa and they taste much sweeter and slightly more bearable!*

I managed 3 shakes yesterday and have just had my first shake of the day today, so something is happening. I think my stubbornness is pulling me through this one, I wanted to make it to the weekend and see how it goes… the weekend is in sight!

Anyone who states a shake only diet is a cheat’s way out… you have absolutely no idea matey! Having to walk passed cooking food is hideous, the feeling of utter weakness is awful, the shivers, the bad breath, the constantly needing the toilet, when your stomach rumbles at really awkward moments… and in all fairness… when the shake tastes like the worst drink you could ever imagine… that’s  not a cheat’s way out… that is someone who is determined to make a difference.

It has done as a full 24 hours on the shakes plus a weeks worth of exercising have meant I have lost 3.5 pounds… get in! My total loss now is 15.5 pounds since January. Am I happy? You bet your sweet ass I am… now for the next stone!

omg, I definitely admire your self control! I used to have protein shakes for breakfast when I went to the gym, and every single morning I would force this nasty thing down… and then really need something “proper” to eat so I’d end up eating a croissant too!
You definitely have so much more self control than me!
One question though – what happens when you go back to real food? I always assumed the weight would just go back on?

Luckily my calorie intake had been reduced anyway so it’s not so much of a shock fortunately and hopefully it will be fat loss as opposed to water loss even a couple of days should make a difference. Going back to eating food I will just have to take it easy and carry on my calorie counting and exercise carefully… the weight will still come off, just slower. I have needed this as a bit of a boost to keep me going.

Good luck wit the shakes. I don’t know how you do it. Is it the shakes everyday? 5:2 is hard enough with restricted eating on just two days a week. Well done on smashing the 1 stone mark. 🙂

Three shakes a day yes and a lot of water – mixed in with black coffee too. Lucikly I have been on a shake only (total food replacement) diet before so know what to expect and I am prepared… ish! Still hard going though 🙁

You so know it… I may have had to take a picture of the scales, just to prove to myself that I had done it and wasn’t imagining it first thing this morning. It has been a long time coming and I know I plateaued, so I am hoping that being on the shakes for a few days will give me the lift I need. Some exciting news about Dukan, I will message you on FB!!x

Wow, I can’t stomach normal milkshakes so not sure i’d have the power to try shakes but good on you for persevering and well done on the loss.

Glad you are getting there chick – I could highly recommend the Heck Chicken Italia range – they are Slimming World friendly and taste divine… unlike these damn shakes… have to go and make one now for my lunch :(x

I’ve never tried a meal replacement regime because I know I would never stick with it. It doesn’t seem like the easy option to me at all, especially after reading your experience. But if it’s working for you then I suppose that takes the edge off!! x

It’s hard without smoking as I used to have a set routine… it is much harder this time around, different shakes too but Almased are full of goodness just need to find the right way to make it taste a little nicer. Sticking it out to the weekend for a kick start x

i do not believe in relying on shakes. basically it just reduce your calories intake drastically and so you’ll lose weight due to severe calorie deficit. it’s not sustainable at all, unless you can live on the shakes forever. change back to solid food (with higher calories) and POOF, the magic is gone.

I am lucky to have previous knowledge of shakes – my calorie intake had been reduced with my calorie tracking and counting but I still wasn’t happy with the results I was getting and wanted a quick fix to keep me boosted… when I am eating again I will be continuing with reduced calories

Doing your regular or routine exercise is well and good but losing your weight is still uphill. You’re trying to get it done. Sooner or later, it will be done. The key is discipline.

Everything about a lifestyle needs to change and adapt not just adding more exercise, it’s all about the food you eat and the drinks. It will happen, just needed a kick start to keep me going! 🙂

I am so proud of you! It takes forever for me to lose weight and I only get motivated when it doing it with a buddy. I have done shakes before and they work but you have to have self control

The shakes would definitely be good meal replacement. This can really give you the nutrients needed when losing weight.

Absolutely and the Almased shakes are actually packed with lots of nutrients that I may not get in a normal day if I was simply calorie counting!

I have heard from other girls that the shakes with soya or honey are very healthy and do wonders in the process of losing weight but I haven’t yet tried them myself.

They are one of the healthiest diet shakes for sure, contain everything you need – just less calories than you are used to.

It’s bloody hard, though when it’s so easy to gain weight, it was never going to be easy to shift it! You need to find something that suits you and fits in with your life… you will get there! 🙂 xx
