Spring into Action to Revive your Home

Redecorate to improve your home

Although it may not seem like it, spring is definitely on its way and now is the perfect time to start thinking about the big spring clean. I find there is something so satisfying about a trip out to the tip to rid your home of all the clutter and junk that has been left lying around the house and garden for goodness knows how long (last spring in my case…). You can also get your house gleaming with an entire furniture make-over, or if your budget doesn’t stretch that far, replacing one or two key items can make your home feel completely rejuvenated. If you are struggling for ideas on how to give your home a fresh new look this spring, take a look at my fantastic top tips for inspiration to revive your home.

No More Mess!

Sorry, but if you truly want to give your home the revamp it deserves, you are going to have to make some tough decisions. Get rid of everything you haven’t used in the past year, because if it hasn’t seen the light of day for that long, then it probably never will. Kitchen gadgets, old books and ill fitting clothes (I had so many “I’ll fit into them one day” clothes, it was ridiculous) can be given to charity shops or sold online, anything else that is broken or particularly shabby needs to be put out of its misery and sent to the tip. Once all the mess is cleared, then you will have a better idea of how you want to redesign your home.

Furniture for Life

An easy way to create a fresh new look is to replace outdated or broken furniture and if your bedroom is in particular need of attention. By replacing a tatty bed you are not only rejuvenating the bedroom but are also taking care of your health, as an old bed and ancient mattress can lead to long-term back problems. An investment in reliable furniture can also save you money in the long term, as you won’t have to purchase the same item for many years to come if you get it right the first time. If it’s your living room that requires a little TLC, consider replacing the sofa, or, if this isn’t possible, simply buy some durable throws to cover any wear and tear, matching the tones with any existing colour scheme in the room.

Painting Brush

Paint Away the Gloom

Sometimes all it takes is a lick of paint on skirting boards and walls to completely change the look and feel of a room. Over time, white walls and radiators can become grimy and no amount of cleaning can make them gleam. The only answer is to get out your brushes and paint, and even if you choose neutral colours, you can achieve beautifully clean results, which will give your rooms a touch of sparkle. If, like me, you aren’t the spring cleaning type, then make sure you buy stain resistant paint, especially for the kitchen and bathroom so you won’t have to spend a lot of time and elbow grease continually scrubbing these areas.

Life can sometimes get in the way and household chores can seem overwhelming. If you are a busy family you can hire professional cleaners in your area to help you clean it better and take the pressure off.

If you have any brilliant revamping tips, it would be great to hear them, so why not drop me a line in the comments below and let everyone in on your nifty spring cleaning secrets?
