Figuring out what you need to take on a camping holiday can be rather daunting, but also equally as exciting! Maybe not so much when packing clothes and essentials for all the family, but certainly all the bits and pieces needed to make the holiday run smoothly.
When I took Mini Me camping a couple of years ago I was a total novice, I did not have a clue what to expect. So, in my infinite wisdom, packed as if we were going on a 3 day trek in no man’s land, as opposed to spending 3 days in a field roughly 5 miles from the nearest village shop.
Food was the biggest consideration, especially when children are involved. Easy to cook food such as eggs and bacon are an absolute winner, although one night we did actually have a takeaway pizza delivered to the campsite – as stated, we were not actually that far from actual civilisation!
Individually packed food is an absolute must and I had packed enough of the Belgian Sugar Waffles from a well known low priced German supermarket to last all year. They are my favourite comfort go to snack ever, but are fantastic for children to eat on the go.
Breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day, yet it is nice to start the day without having to worry about how many pots and utensils you are going to have to carry to the other end of the campsite to wash before you start your day. Did you know that a third of British campers quite like porridge for their breakfast and almost half of British campers have revealed that having a forage for food is part of the camping experience? Are they mad? I quite like having food right there to hand!
The research has been conducted by Moma Foods, the lovely people who make pots of instant porridge… see, less washing up! They have put together this rather colourful checklist of items you may need when you do go foraging!
