The most wonderful time of year is fast approaching, and while it may not be time to decorate yet, there are a few different ways that you can start prepping your home for guests and good times galore. Here are a few areas to focus on over the next couple of months.
With numerous guests making more frequent visits during the festive period, seating can often become an issue. There always seems to be someone left standing or having to sit on the floor at some point or another. But you can start preparing in advance this year, rather than calling around and seeing if anyone has any spare chairs they can bring to drinks or dinners. This will work best if you have a shed or some kind of sheltered outdoor storage space. However, you can always invest in a self-storage unit if you don’t have space out back. Stackable chairs are the best, as you can fit more of them into a smaller space when they’re not in use. Start looking for some and buying one or two every couple of weeks in the lead up to December to ensure that you have plenty ready by the time that they are needed. They needn’t be expensive or a massive investment, as they will generally remain untouched as part of your day to day routines throughout the rest of the year. But they will do their job and can be pulled out for the celebration of other occasions, such as birthdays, announcements, achievements or other holidays.
We all have our favourite Christmas shows and films that we put on each and every year. So whether it’s The Snowman, The Grinch, Elf, Home Alone, It’s a Wonderful Life, or The Muppet Christmas Carol, make sure that everyone has a good view. Invest in a TV stand with bracket that will ensure that the set is secure but can easily be seen from as many angles as possible. This way everyone can cuddle up cozy with a cup of hot chocolate and watch their favourites together.
If you’re going to be hosting meals or drinks, you need to ensure that there’s plenty of tableware at the ready to cater to your guests. This can include a whole host of basics including wine glasses, champagne flutes, and tumblers. You could also do with a few extra plates, bowls and sets of cutlery. When it comes to mugs, why not invest in some festively designed ones? These will gather sentimental value over time as they gather up memories and can be stored safely away with the rest of your decorations throughout the rest of the calendar year.
There are always so many things to plan and organise in December itself that getting a few things out of the way early won’t do any harm. It’ll just make life easier down the line. So get started now and leave the festive season itself for celebration and enjoyment. It’ll be worth the time and effort.
