Did The Random Phone Dude Get Back With His Girlfriend?

I love being swept up in the romance of Christmas and am guilty of watching far too many Hallmark films at this time of year, but what happened yesterday meant I somewhat played a supporting role in a real life Christmas fairy tale…

Yesterday when I had finished writing my last gift guide post, I realised I was suffering with the Christmas burn out. Fellow bloggers will no doubt be nodding at that, you know how it feels! My brain was fried, every word I typed seemed to be ‘Christmas’ and I wondered if I would ever write about anything ever again. Each year I say never again, yet I seem to forget about that comment year on year.

Needing inspiration to fall into my lap, it did, well, inspiration called me to be precise…

Did The Random Phone Dude Get Back With His Girlfriend?

Random Phone dude
After returning home from the school run I quickly checked my emails whilst chatting with Mini Me about her day and then the home phone rang, this is not unusual in our house. What happened next is something you hear about but never actually think it will happen to you… but it did!
My home phone rang with a mobile number I did not recognise and so I answered in my usual ‘I don’t know who this is’ phone voice… basically the posh voice normally reserved for my mum! πŸ˜‰
Step up Mr. Random Phone Dude (RPD)
The conversation was as random as even I am used to from the outset…
RPD: Please do me a favour and say either yes or no!
Me (confused): Well, it all depends on the situation…
RPD: Should I? Yes or no?
Me: If it’s in regards to whether you should press a button, then the answer will always be yes!
RPD: It isn’t quite, so would you say yes?
Me: Do you know what… yes! Why not, always take the risk! *Fist pumps*
RPD: Thank you, that’s just what I needed to hear!
Me: I’m glad I could give you reassurance, have I just said yes to you quitting your job or something?! (Somewhat concerned that I would get the blame!)
(The conversation continued for another couple of minutes…)
It transpired that RPD’s girlfriend had dumped him 6 days previously and he was desperate to win her back before she moved on and needed reassurance to go and see her to give her a photo. Why a photo, I did not know however clearly there was some sentimental factor to this. They had been together for 4 months and he had not wanted to split up. He informed me that his Nan had already said yes and when his mum had not answered his call, he instead dialled a random number… mine! I sensed a Mancunian accent straight away, so realised he was local… and possibly a little bit crazy! Why on earth did he pick my number to ask for relationship advice?!
After wishing him well, I asked that he call back to let me know what happened… call me nosy, but this does not happen every day and I needed to know the ending to the story! I took to Facebook and it wasn’t just me that needed to know too! Head’s up to SophieΒ and everyone elseΒ that was as desperate as me for a happy ending!
My mind was racing… was it a wind up? Was someone casing my house? My mind really was going off on tangents and the wait to find out was as excruciating as waiting for next week’s episode of The Walking Dead!
After a few hours I needed to know! Whilst on the phone to a friend, he was as desperate to know too and after realising that the home phone was engaged told me to call RPD back… so I did! I told him that there was no pressure… however quite a few people wanted to know what happened and we could not wait any longer!
There were so many questions… did he go and see her? Did they get back together? More importantly… why my number?
It turns out he lives just up the road from me and it had been a total random dial that resulted in a call to me. I do have quite an awesome home number… and no, I am not giving it out!
He did go to see the lady concerned and even told her about our conversation. The magic worked and the outcome was positive… she said YES! I assume that was to get back together as they are now officially back together again and he sounded elated! Bless his cottons, he even offered to send me some flowers to say thanks… having my number is one thing, my address another so I ducked out of that one, simply happy that I spread some random Christmas cheer! Even now I still do not know his name, however just in case RPD ever does read this ‘Good luck and unfortunately my relationship advice only stretches to yes or no, so don’t mess it up this time!’
It was a heart warming moment, something you never expect to happen and in some ways it has restored my faith a little… how would you have handled that call?
Merry Christmas everyone!xx

Debbie December 1, 2017 at 8:43 am

Hi S1m, who wouldn’t love this post? It’s a story that Hallmark films are made from (quick copyright the idea!). I’m so glad they got back together, I only hope that she doesn’t dump him again this side of Christmas.

S1m December 1, 2017 at 8:49 am

What a strange thing to happen. Not sure I would ring a random number with something so personal!

S1m December 1, 2017 at 5:39 pm

Not really, that’s how my life rolls… I assume you were never crazy in love when you were young… nor that you are a fan of romance at Christmas… sad times sweets!

What a lovely story – I think this could definitely be a rom com (or a future John Lewis Christmas advert!)

S1m December 2, 2017 at 11:17 am

It really is and I am so glad he randomly dialled my number – too many people would have ignored him! If it is ever turned into an advert then I would request Elbow to sing the backing track πŸ™‚ xx

I hope they can keep the love going and prove that there really is hope and goodness out there!
