With the summer holidays starting this week, the pressure is on to ensure my daughter and I have a fabulous time without breaking the bank. I am sure (and am hoping greatly) that it can be done, especially if this weather continues!

Trips to the park, seaside, geocaching and beyond are all made easier when the sun shines, but extra spending money always comes in handy, in particular taking into account the cost of ice-creams these days!

Without breaking the bank, can we enjoy ourselves without spending a fortune and still save money?

A recent article in the Independent stated survey results suggest keeping children entertained during the summer holidays costs on average £127 per week, from a poll taken of 2,000 parents.

That figure is slightly disconcerting, however there many ways in which you can save money for the future but still enjoy those special moments in life, such as…

Earning money from home

There are ways in which money can be made from home starting by participating in online surveys. A very popular way to make money from the comfort of your own sofa, online surveys can take anywhere between a couple of minutes to 30 minutes to complete and allow you to build up a little fund. You aren’t going to get rich quickly from completing surveys, however it’s always nice to have a little extra spending money.

Simply save money

It really is easier than it sounds! Everyone wants to be outdoors when the sun is shining and it’s a great time to explore local parks and maybe even take up geocaching. Not only is it a completely free activity, but it is also a healthy activity as you are completely unaware of how far you actually walk whilst hunting for well hidden cache! A recent purchase of a 59p Frisbee in a local shop has already been worth its weight in gold as my daughter has spent hours playing with this. A trip to the park with friends, a picnic and the Frisbee of course, can last take up a good portion of a day on a limited budget, but I know we will still return home with smiles on our faces.

Shop sensibly

Ordering your grocery shopping online ensures you are not swayed by the end of aisle special offers, making it easier to stick to the items you actually need. You can even earn money on your shop with the aid of cashback sites such as TopCashBack. Simply go through their site to your chosen online shop and you will earn a percentage back on what you spend. When shopping online, always check for discount codes sites such as dealsplanet in order to save a little more than expected and maybe even pick up free delivery!

Plan wisely

As a parent, you want to ensure your child has the best childhood, but it is always good practice to also save for your future and theirs. Saving money in a pension is the primary way to ensure you can still enjoy yourself at retirement age, whether that be taking the holiday of a lifetime or extending your home.  They are totally enjoying their lives now, living in France and experiencing a completely different life to that in the UK. Me? I’m not jealous at all, however it does make me contemplate my future and what I would like to do when I reach that age. Planning now will certainly make life easier when the time comes for the big decisions.
