Online dating really can be a minefield, especially when you reach a certain age (ahem!) and as a single parent too!
The days of night’s out on the town and chatting to people in bars is long gone, with online dating now proving the most convenient way to date and find a new partner, but where do you start?
Whether you are using Android or iOS software, you will find a plethora of online dating apps ranging from the somewhat normal to the completely insane – with the likes of POF, Tinder and Bumble being the most popular. The main reason they are so popular is due to the fact the basic search and message function is free, with paid add on options offering more scope.
Alas, with free online dating sites, you do tend to have to fend off endless muppets who did not sign up with the best of intentions. You certainly need your wits about you when online dating, however what if you are looking for a serious dating app?
Funny you should ask, as I have just signed up to Serious Dating app for a recent campaign, to test out the app and see how it fares. As a paid app, current price £44.99, you can expect the users of the online dating app to be more genuine and have a more honest view to online dating.
Whilst you can expect my brutally honest opinions in a follow up post in 2 weeks, let’s check out how easy it is to set up a profile on the Serious Dating app!
It’s a relatively easy set-up process and you start by downloading the online dating app via the Google Play Store – Serious Dating App download. Don’t worry if you use iOS software, the app will be available to download shortly.
The interface is simple and straightforward, allowing you to complete every section without distractions or confusion. See, I did tell you this was a serious dating app!
It is mandatory that you upload 6 images to your profile which is nothing out of the ordinary. Surely including more images on your profile increases your chances of messages anyway. However, you also need to upload at least 3 videos over 10 seconds long. Now, I am not a huge fan of videos of myself, which is why you see my daughter more than myself on YouTube. I am looking to take the process seriously though and respect the fact this is an imperative part of the profile filling in process. It’s also a very good way to sort the wheat from the chaff!
Me being me though, clearly I found a way around the 3 videos and simply uploaded the same video 3 times. Probably shouldn’t admit to that but it’s a handy tip if you are video shy!
There are rules as to the quality of images uploaded, with very easy to understand guidelines. With streams of images of people wearing sunglasses, photos of people next to a sedated Tiger and half naked images on other dating apps, it’s reassuring to know this is a big No-No on the Serious Dating App!
Ensure you fill in the ‘About Me’ section which requires 100-400 words – this is basically your chance to sell yourself in word form. Now this can be a struggle for most buffoons on mainstream dating apps – please ensure you use spell checker at all times, reading ‘to’ in place of ‘too’ is extremely off putting! *Eyeroll*
Scrolling down the profile section, you are met with the basics you would expect… male/female, what you are looking for (relationship/ networking /work – so there is scope with the app for the contacts you make), ethnicity, height, location etc.
My absolute favourite part of the profile section is ‘Other Info’… here you select any vices such as whether you smoke or drink alcohol, all pretty standard until…
You are met with the selection of whether you own a boat or not. If so, you can state the type, size and year of manufacture of your particular boat. Now, I get that this is a serious dating app, with an International reach and some may well be fortunate enough to own a boat, however… If you live in the North West of England, then I cannot expect to match with men who own a boat, unless they won BullsEye back in the day. In which case the boat would be knackered by now anyway!
The actual search feature (once payment of the current price £44.99 has been made via Google Pay) offers you similar search criteria to what you select on your own profile. Clearly whether the future Mr. Sim has a boat or not (preferably not!) is of no consequence to me oddly enough. I know you are all wondering if I have met the man of my dreams on the Serious Dating App… stay tuned for the next blog post with all the juicy gossip! 😉
