Looking to kick start a new fitness journey in 2019? Improving your health and increasing fitness levels is always a popular New Year’s resolution. Starting with all the best intentions, the novelty can wear off after a few months, with your resolution long forgotten.

The easiest way to ensure you stick at your fitness journey is to make sure what you do is fun. Pick activities that hour family can join in with too for extra support along the way!

Swimming
A fun, family activity to take part in and a great all-rounder sport that helps to tone your body. With many gyms offering their own swimming pool facilities, there really is no excuse especially when joining a gym in the New Year! There tends to be off peak sessions for children who wish to swim at gyms and leisure centres, so it is worthwhile to check times before you and your family descend on the pool! All you really need to consider is what swimwear to pack! After a successful Keto journey, I certainly need to invest in a new swimming costume, which will no doubt mean Liv asks for a new girls swimming costume too! I know I have my eye on a few from Simply Swim for holidays alongside fitness purposes!

Geocaching
A favourite outdoor activity in our house, we do love to geocaching when the weather is on our side. We were introduced to this activity by the lovely Jane from A Little Lyrical and have carried on since. Geocaching is a fun outdoor ‘treasure hunt’, that is a fabulous family activity, that has you walking miles without realising! Download the geocaching app, pack your geocaching essentials ready to go and be prepared to hunt for cache wherever you travel!

Running
All you need is a pair of decent running trainers and away you go. If you are new to running, apps such as Couch to 5k are a great basis to start with to allow your body to adjust correctly.
Once you are in the flow, check out your local Parkrun events which are great for families. Offering 2k and 5k runs, it’s the perfect way to increase your fitness over the weekend! Be prepared that the Parkrun events do take place early on weekend mornings!

Cycling

It is so easy to transport bikes on the back of cars to your chosen destination. Whether you are off on a family day out, or heading off on a staycation in the UK, cycling allows you to take in the sights at a pace you set. Be as sedate or adventurous as you wish! Cycling is a fantastic all-rounder when it comes to fitness and is a great activity for all the family, just make sure you invest in decent cycling helmets!

The sales are a fantastic way to kit out and stock up on new fitness attire, especially running trainers! If you are looking to treat yourself, I totally recommend investing in an incentive item to keep you spurred on! Designer swim and beachwear items can easily be packed away now, ready for any exciting holiday plans during 2019 and help to keep you on track.
