Project 366 Week 28 – Start Of The Summer Holidays

It’s time for our weekly Project 366 update… and we are 28 weeks into 2020. Is anyone else feeling like we should just fast forward the year and be done with it? It’s the start of the Summer Holidays, although without the usual fanfare and it will certainly be different this time around.

Whilst I am thinking of ways to keep occupied and make the summer awesome, here’s what we have been up to this week!

Homemade dreamcatcher

Sunday

The weather was absolute pants, how is this Summer? Today was a chilled day, doing bits around the house and preparing for the new week.

We had more crafting time and Liv made this gorgeous dreamcatcher, it seems the mounds of wool we have came in handy!

Monday

I am certainly enjoying the freedom of Liv being back in school, even if it is just for 2 days a week. My weekly Home Bargains and Aldi shops were hitch free and I was able to crack on with my working day.

Win a £20 voucher for Morse Toad Chocolate Gifts

Tuesday

A trip to the Post Office today and the guy infront of me in the queue asked if we should be wearing face masks. I choose to wear one when out shopping anyway, it has become natural now, though I am surprised by how few actually do wear masks.

Whilst not compulsory, it is an added reassurance!

Line of Totty Rocks

Wednesday

We had a lovely walk out along the lines today. Getting to meet the lovely ladies who are maintaining the Totty Snake and keeping it looking amazing. My favourite new addition:

Totty Snake Rocks

There are now over 3,500 painted rocks and we will be contributing our own soon. There was a supply of rocks to decorate, so we collected one each and had our thinking caps on.

Bouncy egg experiment

Thursday

We have been following Karen’s lead on fun scientific experiments recently and finally got to try out our bouncy egg after a 72 hour soak in white vinegar. It didn’t smell as bad as I had been informed, maybe my nose was prepared and just clocked off.

It really does work though! The egg really did bounce, however, do not assume it can drop from a greater height!

July GlossyBox

Friday

Our July GlossyBox arrived today which was exciting! I’ve written about how ‘Treat Mail’ is a great mood booster and also featured our last GlossyBox in our Favourite Subscription Boxes feature. Liv declared that today was the final home schooling day… I think she is a tad optimistic!

With Primary School officially finishing for her on Tuesday, she wants to fully enjoy the summer holidays. Thing is, we cannot do everything we generally do. Holidays have been disrupted, as has life in general. The summer break is going to be strange and different for all this year.

However I am looking forward to not being woken up by my alarm! What do you have planned over the summer holidays?

Coffee at Jen's

Saturday

I’ve waited ages again to enjoy a black coffee from this particular mug! It’s my favourite mug to use when at Jen’s house. Whilst the skies were clear, Liv and I popped down to see Jen and her family. For an outdoor coffee and catch up visit which was a great way to spend the afternoon!

That’s our week wrapped up, how has yours been?

Don’t forget the Shake Off Game giveaway ends tomorrow!

  1. How lovely to go and see a friend. That must help. I look forward to seeing how you decorate your rocks. They look awesome. I need to do that with the kids. It does seem like a longer school year in a way. I hope you get to go away xx

  2. Such a pretty dream catcher. Can’t get over how long that rock snake is now. We went back to see ours and I think just another 7 had been added. It is still so little in comparison! The gin rock is fabulous. I think its quite sweet that they leave a supply of rocks for people to take encouraging them to make the snake even more impressive! The GlossyBox contents look great, maybe I need to order myself some pampering treats.

  3. Your summer holidays started a little earlier than ours – our end of term was yesterday. It does feel strange to slip into summer mode without the usual end-of-term stuff that usually marks it though. I love Liv’s dream-catcher. I’m relieved that face masks in shops is about to become mandatory – I’ve been wearing them on the few times I’ve ventured into shops and like you have been surprised by how few people are wearing them. I love that gin o’clock pebble on the Totty Lines. #project366

  4. I wear my mask when I’m out at the shops and if I’m visiting Dad. Otherwise though I don’t, but I would if I was going running or riding a bike as I understand that’s more risky. School sounds like a distant memory here although H did do 2 hours this week.

  5. I want to do rock painting but have no idea where to get big enough stones from (I would love a visit to a beach! maybe soon…)I wish they would just make a blanket decision over masks to avoid confusion #project366

  6. That is a lovely dream catcher, we made one a Camp Bestival and it takes pride of place over my daughters bed. Love that snake, thinking of starting one locally

  7. Yes! Fast forward please! That’s a pretty dream catcher. Why did he ask that question? Isn’t it obvious? That’s a lovely place for a walk and so many rocks!! Wow! Cool to know the egg experiment worked out. That’s a cute mug!

  8. It’s always gin o clock somewhere. I have a gin messenger video chat every Sunday with my friend at 8pm. Lovely to get out and see your friends, no idea what I’m doing with the summer holidays, day by day i guess, mind you without kids at home anymore it doesn’t make much difference to me

  9. That is a lot of rocks! But they look fab.

We were meant to be going Wales in the holidays but have ended up cancelling. Might end up a lot of local walks and screen time to be honest.

  10. We have a week left of school and some learning to do over the summer too – but it’s not mandatory – I am going to see what it is before I decide. I am looking forward to the holidays.

  11. How annoying being asked about wearing a mask, it is up to you simples as that. Yes, the weather has been a bit pants, but bring on the sun hopefully x

  13. Did the egg break then when you went for a greater height lol, sounds like a nice week overall, a bit more normal, we like mystery boxes in this house and for us they brighten up our moods

  15. Sounds like a chilled out week for you, loving that mug by the way too. We have enjoyed painting rock during the holidays too and can’t wait to get more painted over the weekend

  16. Oh wow that’s so many rocks in the rock snake! There is one nearby to us, which has around 150 rocks in and my children have loved adding theirs to it 🙂

  17. Crikey, I thought our school was finishing earlier than most schools next Thursday, but I’ve seen so many saying they’re finished already. I’ve promised a trip to a safari park, but otherwise no summer plans at the moment. It’ll be hard to persuade N, but might have to try and book a cottage somewhere near the coast at the end of the hols so at least we have some time away.
I keep meaning to try the egg thing with N. Need to restock my white vinegar though.

  18. We still have one week to go until the end of the school year. The dream catcher is lovely. And the Totty snake is getting longer and longer. I chuckled at Peppa Pig next to Gin o’clock, maybe she should be moved somewhere more innocent?
Love reading about your scientific experiments. Great that you were able to see your friend and have a coffee from your favourite mug.

  19. Aww lovely to hear you’re catching up with your friend again. We’re on holiday already and I’ve made a huge list of jobs to do around the house – to be honest, I think most people did all their to-do lists during the confinement, but I was busy working ! We’re going to go and visit Belgium for a week, as it’s only 20 minutes away ! I love the dream catcher and the bouncy eggs experiment sounds great fun ! I always love seeing the painted stones – it’s great that it’s getting so big !

  20. No Summer holidays are not going to be what they normally are, but at least there is no school work to stress over.
    aaaahhhhhh love the cute mug.
away to look at your competition.

I can’t blame Liv for thinking school should be over now. It is over here as my daughter’s school brought the end of the year forward by a week. We are going away for a week in Padstow over summer, but we still don’t know when! We have had our trip to Center Parcs cancelled. I doubt we will do much else.

  22. We have one week of school work then our school holidays begin. We’re ready for them, we’re not cut out for this home schooling lark.
That dream catcher is so pretty.
I have seen hardly anyone around here wearing face masks. We wear them if we’re going to the shop but not if we’re out for a walk or bike ride.
    The Totty Snake looks fab!
We made some bouncy eggs a few years ago and were so impressed. They are certainly fun. x
