I started blogging way back when as a hobby. Writing was an outlet, it was cathartic and I had no idea about blog stats or promoting my work, it was just all about writing.
Fast forward a decade and every spare hour is spent curating Sim’s Life, posts, images, social posts and more. My blogging journey has turned into so much more than I ever spected, so let’s have a look at what I’ve learned over my time as a blogger.
What I’ve Learned From Blogging For 10 Years
The has been a significant increase in the number of influencers in the past few years, to the point that I would be considered an old dame in today’s terms. In some respects, the essence of what blogging is has changed somewhat as people turn to platforms such as Instagram and Facebook for a quick and convenient way to push a message. However, blogging… actually writing informative and engaging blog posts and featuring on actual blogs will always prove popular. So what have I learned from the whacky world of creating blogs though?
SEO is King
I wish I had known this from the beginning as it would make my life a LOT easier right now and free up many hours! People can easily be swayed by the endless stream of ‘freebies’ they believe bloggers receive. Whilst bloggers are sent items, they are most certainly NOT free! Hours upon hours are spent writing about these products, taking pictures of the products to showcase them to their best and then promotion after publishing. However being clued up on the best practices of SEO will ensure promotion of blog posts and the products sent to bloggers will be maximised. Understanding the importance of keywords and how to use them in a structured blog post. Putting the time and effort in before starting a blog will certainly pay off in the long run!
Network with other Bloggers
There are so many blogging communities to be part of, all helping you become a better blogger. Whether you meet virtually or in person at blogging events or conferences, you will make lots of friends who understand the crazy world of influencers and blogging. There are so many ways to get involved with other bloggers and it’s well worth considering these opportunities! Taking part in influencer spotlight posts are a great idea for offering readers a glance at the person behind the blog. Linkys are a fabulous way to engage with and follow other bloggers and also check out new content!
Take a Break Away from your Screen
It is so important to take time away from your screen to recharge your batteries. Blogging life is hectic enough and can interfere with ‘normal’ life, proving quite stressful, especially at Christmas time. Compiling Christmas Gift Guides can be fun and certainly gets you into the spirit, however they are very time consuming and can leave you exhausted. Ensure you get outdoors and meet friends, get some fresh air and just enjoy life… blogging will always be there!
