Things To Consider When Going On Longer Vacations

Most holidays average about 7-14 days. This is enough time for you to de-stress, relax and enjoy most of what is there to offer locally to where you are staying. Holidays are something that a lot of us need, it helps us get through tough times knowing we have a well-deserved break coming up. Let’s take a look at things to consider when going on longer vacations.

Holidays help us forget our everyday problems for a little bit. There is something exciting we can look forward to and have a little countdown on our calendar until we can go. However, sometimes you just want to have a longer break and you could end up going away between 1 and 6 months.

This gives you a chance to explore the world a little more, see the incredible things it has to offer, and complete some of your bucket lists while traveling. When you go away for a long time there are certain things you need to consider and make sure you have in place.

Arranging Travel Insurance

If you are going on holiday anywhere in the world, you really should ensure you arrange travel insurance for yourself and family. Since Covid, it is even more important that you arrange this before travelling to ensure all bases are covered.

It tends to be older people who take longer vacations as they have more free time on their hands. Older travellers have slightly more to consider, such as what to do if they have any health issues when on holiday.

Can You Afford This Longer Vacation?

One of the important things about going on a longer holiday is making sure you can afford a holiday you will love.

There are a couple of ways you can do this, one of them is that you can save up a bit of money to use to book everything and have to keep you going while you travel.

The other way is to choose a set time you are going to give yourself a good year to year and a half notice and have some savings in place beforehand.

Getting clothing and camera equipment ready to pack by laying it out on the floor.

Buy What You Need In Small Chunks

Then each month you can book something or contribute towards one of the things you need to pay for. This could be getting things you need to take with you like a backpack or booking accommodation and travel.

By doing it in smaller chunks you can make sure you don’t overstretch yourself and have things all done beforehand to make it easier for you. Then you will have a solid itinerary to work from as well.

If your longer trip involves travelling with another family or extended relatives, it is also worth taking time to organise a multi-family holiday properly before booking. Agreeing budgets, accommodation, sleeping arrangements and shared plans early can save a lot of stress once everyone is away together.

What Documents And Important Information Do You Need To Organise?

When traveling for a longer period it is important to work out what type of Visa you will need and if you need any other information set up. For example, if you go to America you will need to organise a visa for staying for up to 90 days.

Also, will you be saving up all the money you need or will you be planning on working while away to cover some of the costs as this changes what type of visa you need?

If you are travelling abroad with children, it is worth running through a proper family trip abroad checklist before you go. Checking passports, visas, travel insurance, medication, emergency contacts and travel tech early can save a lot of last-minute stress.

You don’t want to get there and realise you have the wrong one and risk being sent back home it will be the shortest vacation of your life! So do lots of research and ask friends who have been travelling so you don’t miss anything out.

Have You Covered Safety Aspects?

Travelling can sometimes feel scary, especially if visiting places you aren’t familiar with and even more so if you end up going alone. While not recommended some people want to travel alone.

Make sure in your luggage and backpack you have easily accessible items like a torch, whistle, any emergency medication you need, and details about who you are and who your emergency contacts are.

Another great tip is to give a family member, like your mum, all of the information about what you are doing and where you are going. This would include contact details and address of accommodations, people you are traveling with, and give her some emergency cash she can transfer to you if you find you need it.

It may be that you need to come home early but have ran out of money so the emergency money will cover flight costs to get you home nice and safe.

Can You Earn Money While Travelling Without A Job?

While it is still technically a job there are ways you can earn money while traveling without doing something where you are employed like working in a shop or waitressing.

Social media is the gold mine of the younger generation, by having a high and engaging audience on the social platforms you can use that in the marketing world and actually make real money from it.

You should try and build your blog audience before you go traveling, so you can be close to arranging or already have offers for paid partnerships. Fees that are charged are very individual and personally set by each influencer, all types of fees vary depending on how much work you put into it.

However, there are also apps and websites which are the intermediaries between brands and bloggers which may offer jobs with a set fee. This is then up to you if you think it is suitable for you to take on and apply on. Why not start a travel blog before you head off on your holiday?

Have You Organised Things To Run Smoothly At Home?

While going away for a longer period you can look at letting your property out to someone who will pay you rent or you could also get your friends to stay there or check-in to make sure everything is okay.

Make sure all your utilities and bills that still need to be paid by you are on automatic payments so you don’t end up coming home to lots of letters and companies chasing you for payments.

If you have any pets, ask family or friends to look after them, as kennels just won’t be a happy place for them to stay for such a long time. It is much better for your pet’s wellbeing if you have someone you trust watching on them and you can call and check any time.

Traveling is incredible and life-changing but is also takes a lot of work and organising. If you aren’t the most organised person, certainly look at getting some assistance to make sure that everything runs smoothly. This will allow you to focus on the points above to make sure you can cover everything you need to.
