The pandemic certainly sparked a love of crochet in my house. A hobby that is both relaxing and allows you to zone out from the constant barrage of bad news.
The fact you can actually make useful items is simply an added bonus! Modern Crochet Style by Lindsey Newns, from the Lottie and Albert crochet website, is the perfect gift for any crochet fan.
From publisher White Owl Books, the style of the book is well laid out, colourful and you will find it easy to navigate yourself through the projects.
Featuring 15 colourful crochet patterns, the accompanying images offer a step by step guide on how to complete your creation.
With a host of crochet projects with a fun, sustainable feel, your only decision is which project to complete next! This book proves that crochet is not dated, hence the title Modern Crochet Style!

Modern Crochet Patterns
The book features 15 projects that are fun and have a modern feel to them… no more crochet doilies! With an emphasis on sustainability, there is something special about carrying your own unique duffel bag that you made yourself.
A couple of the modern crochet patterns featured in the book include:
- Geo Hat
- Scandi stocking for Christmas
- Patchwork scarf
- Slogan bathmat
- Fruit placemats
All the stylish crochet patterns feature a step by step guide, with handy colourful images to help guide you on your way. Some of the crochet patterns will naturally be easier than others, however there isn’t a set way of working through the book. You can pick and choose which project to work on as and when you have the time to pick up your crochet hook.

Where can I buy crochet patterns?
If you have worked your way through the book, why not head over to Lindsey Newns website Lottie and Albert. A fabulous modern crochet blog that features a whole host of crochet ideas to set you off on your next project. You will also find blog tutorials and free patterns with a seasonal feel for a new challenge.
Lindsey is a crochet pro and her book is absolutely delightful and filled will lots of stylish crochet ideas. As a beginner, I will most likely start with the wallhanging pattern as I have mastered the art of crochetting straight lines.
Personally the book is slightly more advanced than the beginner stage, however, even as a crochet beginner, the techiques and guides will certainly help you. Use the sustainable crochet patterns in the book as a tool to spur you on to keep creating different crochet designs as you advance.

Where can I buy the Modern Crochet Style book?
You can purchase Modern Crochet Style directly from the publisher White Owl Books, priced at £14.99. Though you will also find the book on Amazon and in bookstores such as Waterstones.
Whether you are buying as a gift or as a treat for yourself, this really is a lovely book. Lindsey is so knowledgable with crochet and the book has such a lovely layout with colourful images to help. You really will not be disappointed as it is a great book to add to your hobby collection!
