What Should Tweens Do When They Are Bored?
‘I’m bored!‘ The two words all parents dread!
If your tween is feeling bored during the summer holidays, it’s important to encourage them to find fun and engaging summer activities. There are plenty of summer activities for kids available that will keep them entertained and occupied.
When summer boredom sets in, it is hard to shake off and the 6 week summer break can seriously drag. Before the holidays begin, you should encourage your child to create a summer bucket list of activities they want to do.
They can either jot down their favourite activities to simply tick off or even place their ideas on separate pieces of paper in a jar. Then, when the holidays hit, simply pick out a daily activity to do. If some require advance booking, it’s wise to make the reservations first, for a specific day and note it on your calendar.
The key is to encourage tweens to be creative and find activities that interest them so they can beat their boredom this summer.

What Are Good Summer Activities For Tweens?
Summer is a time for relaxation, fun and exploration. However, it’s also a time when kids tend to sleep in and spend more time enjoying screen time. For tweens, who are at a critical age where physical activity plays an important role in their growth and development, staying active this summer should be a top priority.
Popular summer activities for tweens include outdoor sports, art classes, music lessons, swimming and hiking with family.
You can pretty much guarantee the weather will be on side during the summer holidays, making it the perfect time for teens to engage in various outdoor activities.
Spending time outdoors is a fabulous excuse to enjoy some all important screen free time and is a great way for families to bond.
Visiting the beach is one of the most popular summer activities that the whole family can enjoy. Simply pack up a bag of food and drinks, alongside towels, an extra change of clothes and suncream, and away you go! From playing in the sand and building sandcastles, to swimming in the sea or simply relaxing with a good book. A trip to the beach is a relatively cheap day out that everyone will enjoy.

Activities That Don’t Break The Bank
As mentioned above, a trip to the beach can be a cheap day out. However, unless you live close by to one, the costs of driving there can soon mount up.
Outdoor scavenger hunts are a great idea, as you can use items from your home. Invite friends over to join in the summer fun and make a day of it!
Reading is also a great hobby activity that kids love. Why not set a challenge to read a set amount of books that can be recorded in a summer reading log. This will help keep your child occupied and help them expand their knowledge base.
If you are visiting London during the summer holidays, free tickets for the Sky Garden are released 3 weeks in advance on Monday mornings at 10am. The tickets do go quickly, but the views you experience from London’s highest public garden are well worth it!
Museums in most cities around the UK offer free entry – special exhibitions tend to come with an extra fee. However, if your child has a particular interest, then they will enjoy visiting museums and galleries for a day out.
National Trust venues are always popular throughout summer, check out this Nostell Priory review featured on 2 Adults 3 Children to find out why!

My youngest is a bit older than a tween but she has a long summer ahead after finishing her GCSE’s so this has given me some fantastic ideas. x
To be honest, a lot of the activities can relate to any age and are perfect for keeping everyone entertained! Wishing your daughter well and all the luck… that summer after finishing GCSE’s is awesome! 🙂
So many great ideas on here!
Thank you so much Joanne! Hope the activities come in handy this summer! 🙂 x
Great ideas you have here!! Most kids these days have no idea how to have fun, not like we did back when I was a child. We were always outside. Seems most young ones today are glued to the TV, or on their computers and phones playing video games. Thanks so much for linking up at the #UnlimitedLinkParty 115. Pinned.
Thank you for pinning Dee! I am in total agreement, we had so much freedom as children and were never bored, even though we didn’t have access to technology, because we made our own fun. Hopefully the printable will help families keep busy this summer!x
