If you’re wondering what Clubbercise classes are like and whether they’re for you, you’ve come to the right place! After a year of attending weekly classes, I’m here to tell you exactly what to expect, what to bring and why you absolutely need to give it a go.
Clubbercise is the perfect mix of fitness and fun – think disco lights, glow sticks and an epic playlist that’ll have you sweating buckets without even realising that you’re working out.
So, if you’ve been hesitating to try a class, don’t! Grab your trainers, glow sticks and water bottle – and let’s take a look at what makes Clubbercise one of the most enjoyable workouts around.
What to Expect in a Clubbercise Class
Walking into a Clubbercise class feels like stepping straight into a friendly nightclub. The difference? You’ll leave feeling healthier, sweatier, and so proud of yourself.
Here’s how a typical class goes:
- Setting the Scene: Your local sports hall (or if you’re lucky, an actual nightclub!) will be dimly lit with disco lights. Everyone’s got glow sticks in hand, and the atmosphere is buzzing with energy.
- The Workout: Expect a mix of high-intensity dance moves and lower-impact options. The routines are simple enough for beginners but still challenging enough for regulars to feel the burn.
- The Soundtrack: You’ll dance to old-school 90s classics, current bangers, and remixed anthems. If you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself singing along while trying not to trip over your own feet!
The best part? It’s so much fun you forget you’re working out. I leave every class grinning, glistening, and wishing we could hit replay.
If you’re worried about getting the moves right – don’t be. Follow the front row for guidance or just freestyle. No one minds if you get it wrong – half the fun is busting out your own version of the routine!

What Form of Exercise is Clubbercise?
Clubbercise is the perfect mix of fitness and fun. Imagine a darkened room lit by disco lights, dance anthems blasting from the speakers, and everyone waving flashing glow sticks, that’s Clubbercise in a nutshell!
The class kicks off with a quick and easy warm-up, and then the real fun begins: a mix of high-energy dance moves, combat-inspired routines, and even toning exercises – all set to an amazing playlist of 90s club classics and current hits.
We all particularly love the 90’s club classics, though my favourite tune and routine is “From Paris to Berlin” by Infernal, it’s impossible not to get pumped up!
If you’re worried about following the moves perfectly – don’t be.
You can dance like no one’s watching because the lights are low and honestly, no one cares. It’s about moving your body, having fun, and getting a great workout. Plus, the glow sticks (around £5-6 a pair) make you feel like a dancefloor superstar.
Tips for Beginners
Starting something new can feel daunting, but I promise you, Clubbercise is super beginner-friendly. Here are my top tips to help you rock your first class:
What to Bring to Clubbercise Classes
- Comfortable gym clothes (think breathable and stretchy)
- A good pair of trainers that’ll support all the jumping and squatting
- At least two bottles of water – trust me, you’ll need it!
What to Expect
- The first class might feel a little overwhelming, and that’s okay. Focus on enjoying the music and following along as best as you can.
- Follow the front row – they know what they’re doing and will help you pick up the moves faster.
Getting the Most Out of it
- Relax and don’t stress about being perfect. It’s about having fun and getting a sweat on, not performing on Strictly!
- The more you go, the easier it becomes. Soon you’ll have favorite routines and you’ll be glowing in more ways than one.
Is Clubbercise Good for Weight Loss?
Oh, absolutely! Clubbercise is brilliant for weight loss. An hour-long class can torch up to 600 calories (give or take, depending on how hard you go for it).
To give you an idea, my smartwatch usually shows about 5,000-6,000 steps by the end of a session. On warmer summer nights when the sports hall is practically a sauna, I swear I burn even more calories!
But here’s the real magic: Clubbercise doesn’t feel like exercise. You’re dancing, laughing and waving glow sticks around, so you don’t realise how much you’re moving.
Combine it with a healthy diet (and resist the urge to dive into a post-class bag of Maltesers like I sometimes do) and you’ll see results in no time.
Is Clubbercise Hard?
Not at all – and that’s one of the best things about it. Clubbercise is designed to be inclusive and accessible, no matter your fitness level.
Each routine has both high- and low-impact options, so whether you’re just starting out or a fitness fanatic, you can tailor the moves to suit you.
Here’s what I love:
- The routines are easy to follow and repetitive enough that you’ll pick them up quickly.
- The warm-up eases you in, and the cool-down at the end helps you stretch out properly.
- If a routine feels too intense, you can switch to the low-impact version – or do your own thing entirely.
It’s not about being perfect – it’s about moving, having fun and feeling amazing afterward.
I’ve been going for over a year now, and while I still get lost on some new routines, I’ve mastered others so well I could do them with my eyes closed (though I wouldn’t recommend trying that).

What do you wear to a Clubbercise Fitness Class?
The short answer? Whatever makes you feel comfortable!
Most people in my class rock neon leggings and bright gym tops – the glow sticks really make the neon pop. If you don’t want to splash out on new gear, don’t worry. I usually wear my usual Tikiboo gym leggings, a tank top and throw on a neon headband or scrunchie for a bit of clubby flair.
As long as you’ve got a good pair of trainers that support all the jumping, squatting and dancing, you’re good to go.
Remember, the lights are low, so no one’s judging what you’re wearing or how you’re dancing. It’s all about having fun and feeling good.
Can Men Attend Clubbercise?
Absolutely! Clubbercise is for everyone, regardless of gender. The classes are friendly and welcoming, encouraging participants to have fun while working up a sweat.
Men can enjoy the same fitness benefits and fun atmosphere as anyone else. We had a lovely guy who attended with us and quickly became part of our crew.
Sadly, life gets in the way, and a Clubbercise class may fall on the wrong evening.
The great thing about the classes is that you are not tied in, if you can attend one week but not the next, it is no bother. I prefer a pay-as-you-go exercise class as it takes the strain off scheduling!

I love hearing about your Clubbercise evenings! Great tips for making sure you get the most fun out of exercise!
We always have so much fun, Clubbercise classes are an awesome way to get fit and have fun with your friends. The music is fantastic and sometimes a little nostalgic to younger clubbing days and an hour flies by without you realising you have been working out! 🙂
